2c) Managing Classroom Procedures

  • Supporting Goal
    • I will implement classroom procedures to help my classroom run more smoothly and to cut down on transition times.
  • Plan
    • I used information that I learned in my Behavior Management class at Dixie State College to guide me in making my classroom procedures.  The classroom procedures are placed at the front of my classroom and each student has a copy of the classroom procedures in their folder in their desk.  If a student does not remember to follow procedures, they will be asked to review the procedure and then explain to me what they forgot to do and how they can improve.  The second time that a procedure is broken, the student is asked to fill our a Class Procedures Reminder Form where they write what the procedure was that they forgot and how they can improve.  The third time a procedure is broken, the student takes a note home and I contact the parent.  So far one reminder is all that has been needed to make sure that the students are following class procedures.
2d)  Managing Student Behavior
  • Supporting Goal
    • I will implement classroom goals to help students know and understand acceptable behaviors in the classroom.
  • Plan
    • Each student has the right to feel that they are in a safe learning environment.  In order to provide students with a safe learning environment, students must understand and follow certain class expectations.  On the first day of school, the class help me come up with our class goals for the year.  We decided to call them goals instead of rules because goals had a more positive feeling to it than rules.  Most rules are things you should not do, where class goals are things that you should do.  If students forget what the class goals are, they are reminded by the teacher two times and the third time a parent is contacted about the situation.  So far this year I have managed to maintain a positive classroom environment and have not had to contact any parents about behavior problems.  However, I have sent home notes notifying parents of positive behavior.
  • Evidence
    • Below is a copy of the poster displayed in the classroom that shows our class goals for the year.
2e)  Organizing Physical Space

  • Supporting Goal
    • I will organize my classroom and provide my students with a safe classroom that promotes collaborative learning.
  • Plan
    • The classroom is set up with students in groups of four as tables.  Students are asked to share as tables, as shoulder partners, and as eyeball partners.  Desks are also moved on a weekly basis so that students have a different group of students as their partners each week.  The classroom is organized and everything is labeled when possible so that students can help keep the classroom well organized.  Students are also responsible for daily jobs to help keep the classroom neat and organized.

Domain 2: the Classroom Environment 2012-2013

Supporting Goal (2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2e)- Create a well organized and inviting learning environment in which the students feel safe and secure and they know the policies and procedures throughout the day.   Students will be well managed and transition times will be minimal interruptions to the learning in the classroom.

Plan:  Clear and consistent procedures posted at the front of the classroom.  Students will be positively reinforced through table-points, class party points, and a ticket system.  When needed, students will be met with one-on-one and will be given a procedures behavior form to fill out and set goals on how they can improve their behavior in class.

Evidence:  There has been an increase in the number of students on task and engaged in the learning activities throughout the school year.
