5a) Assessing Learning Goals

  • Supporting Goal
    • I will use data gathered from student assessments to help me plan for future lessons, adjust my teaching to the needs of my class, and to reflect on my own teaching strategies.
  • Plan
    • I can keep a weekly journal that helps me to assess the learning needs of my students.  By reflecting on my teaching strategies and the assessment outcomes of the students on a weekly basis, I will be able to adjust my lessons accordingly.  This information will be invaluable to providing my students with the best learning environment for their individual needs.
  • Evidence
    • I have started a journal that I write weekly reflections in and reflect on the learning outcomes of my class for the week.  The journal is a way for me to evaluate the students learning and to help guide me in my instruction for the following week.  I reflect on what went well, what I can improve on, and what my next steps will be for the class.  I also have a weekly meeting with our Staff Developer where we discuss what is going well, what I can work on, and what my next steps will be.  The support from the Staff Developer helps me to stay on track and achieve the goals that I have set for my first year of teaching.

5d)  Communicating Feedback

  • Supporting Goal
    • I will provide my students and their parents/guardians with feedback on student progress throughout the school year.
  • Plan
    •  I can provide each student with their scores on assignments, homework, and assessments on a regular basis so that they know their standing in class.  I can meet with each student on a weekly basis to discuss their achievements in class for the week and to discuss any concerns that they might have.  I can also keep the lines of communication open with the parents/guardians of students in my class so that they are aware of their student's achievements.
  • Evidence
    • Each week I meet with each individual student in a one-on-one conference.  We discuss their stations work for the week, any behavior problems (or successes), their portfolios, and any other questions or concerns that they may have.  Each student looks forward to their conferences, and they have turned out to be a very positive weekly experience for both me and the student.  I plan on using the one-on-one conferences weekly for the entire school year.  I also send out emails to the parents/guardians to update them when their student is missing assignments or if they miss turning in their homework two weeks in a row.  The parents/guardians have been told that they are more than welcome to contact me at anytime if they have any questions or concerns about their student.

Domain V:  Assessment 2012 - 2013

Supporting Goal (5c, 5d)-  I will communicate feedback on learning progress to students/parents on a regular basis and will use the results from formative and informative assessments to drive instruction throughout the school year.

Plan:  I will have students track their individual scores and meet with them individually to set goals and expectations for themselves throughout the school year.

Evidence:  Students reviewed and maintained accurate records of their progress throughout the year.  They were aware of their individual assessment results as well as results as an overall class.  They participated in goal setting for their own academic achievement.
