Domain III:  Instruction 2011-2012

3a) Communicating Clearly and Accurately

  • Supporting Goal
    • I will strive to communicate with my students in a clear and accurate manner so that they can learn to the best of their abilities.
  • Plan
    • Clear and accurate communication is key when teaching students.  Each student deserves to have the best education possible.  In order to make sure that each student receives clear and accurate communication on their ability level, I need to make sure to differentiate instruction to the needs of each individual student as much as possible.  I can do this by using small group instruction and tailor the communication to the students as much as possible.
  • Evidence
    • I use small group instruction in math and language arts.  For math I have students in groups of four.  I work with each group of four daily for 12-15 minutes.  This gives me an opportunity to communicate with the students on a more individual level.  I also use small group instruction during language arts as part of guided reading.  My guided reading groups are set up in groups of 4-5 students and I work with each group 1-2 times per week.  Each week I also meet with each student one-on-one for individual conferences where we go over their language arts stations work and discuss what they learned.

3c)  Engaging Students in Learning

  • Supporting Goal
    • I will do my best to provide my students with a variety of learning methods to help engage them in their own individual learning process.
  • Plan
    • I will create a variety of interactive lessons on the SMARTBoard to help engage my students in the learning process.
  • Evidence
    • The lessons I create are high in visual materials and provide the students a variety of times to work as partners, in small groups, and alone.  When applicable, the students are provided with timers so they know how much time they have to spend on each topic we are working on. This helps them to stay motivated and not waste time because they know they only have until the timer goes off to finish.  The timer works especially well during our free writes.  The students know that they need to keep their pencils moving the entire time during free writes and they should let the ideas flow.  They will have time later to go back and worry about the conventions of their writing, but during the timed portions, they should just write about what ever comes to mind with the prompt they were given.

Domain III:  Instruction 2013-2013

Supporting Goal (3b, 3d):  I will use questioning and discussion techniques as well as assessment for instruction.

Plan:  I will strive to use more high-level questioning in the class and will use the student responses to these questions as assessment for instruction.

Evidence:  There has been an increase in the number of questions the students ask on a daily basis and their questioning shows a deeper level of understanding of the concepts being taught.
